Are you aware of the fact that in Tamil Nadu 1.39lakhs persons are undergoing treatment for AIDS/HIV and STDs etc?
Patients belonging to Tamil Nadu who are affected with AIDS or Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome/HIV or Human Immunodeficiency virus and STD`s or Sexually Transmitted Diseases etc need not go to far off places to get treatment.
It is now mentioned that 4 private medical college hospitals across Tamil Nadu would provide free treatment to these patients. These medical college hospitals are Melmaruvathur based Sri Adhiparasakthi Medical College and Hospitals, Kanyakumari Medical Mission, Nandha Medical College HospitalS in Erode and Tiruvallur based Sri Venkateswara Medical College Hospitals.
On Wednesday, 10th September, the TN health minister M. Subramanian was busy inaugurating an intensive awareness campaign on STDs. He spoke about the free treatment that would be available at the above said 4 private medical college hospitals in TN. The state of TN has been taking huge efforts to manage infections among the infected persons and prevent further transmission of the diseases. It is learnt that in Tamil Nadu about 1.39lakhs patients are undergoing treatment for HIV/AIDS and STDs etc.
It is noteworthy that on 14th June 2025 (World Blood Donor Day), the TN launched red ribbon clubs in eleven colleges. As many as twenty new colleges have been added. Moreover, 30 schools have been inducted for life skills education training programmes.
Point is that the red ribbon clubs would educate youths regarding HIV/AIDS prevention, care support, promote voluntary blood donations and fight against social issues like drug abuse and drunken driving etc.
It is worth mentioning that in the last 3 months an amount of Rs 2.83 crores has been distributed for educational, medical and nutritional needs of 7618 kids living with HIV/AIDS and STDs.
