Sweets prices soar up

This year’s Deepavali sweets will taste bitter because most of the shops and caterers have raised prices by 30-50%, citing inflation and higher labour costs. Sri Krishna Sweets has increased prices of all items by 30%. They have hiked prices due to an increase in the price of ghee, which goes up by 10 every day.

Caterers too have raised prices. For instance, 1kg of Mysore pak cost 180 last year, but caterers are quoting 270-340 this year. At Grand Sweets, the price is 470 a kg. Want to have a blast? Pay more T he prices of firecrackers have gone up 10%-20% this season, with the fall in the rupee increasing the price of imported raw materials. Manufacturers say that stricter rules and inspections following accidents at manufacturing units too hit production.
