Posted on: 27/Aug/2025 9:27:21 AM

Permission has been granted by the Greater Chennai Police for installing 1519 Vinayagar idols within the Chennai city police limits for the Vinayagar Chathurthi celebrations. It is known to us that the festival falls on 27th of August, today.

At the idol installations, police personnel would be posted and police patrol vehicles would be doing rounds also. Two volunteers would be present 24/7 for the sake of security and the area would be under CCTV control. Those persons who would be creating nuisance by not following police guidelines etc in the pretext of celebrations would be dealt with strictly by the police department.

It was mentioned by the police department that for facilitating procession and immersion of the idols more than 16000 police personnel and many home guard volunteers would be deployed.

Guidelines for installing the Vinayagar idols have been issued to Hindu outfits (earlier this week) by additional police commissioners Mr. N. Kannan (South), Mr. Pravesh Kumar (North) and Mr. G. Karthikyen (Traffic). They made their presence felt at a meeting with the representatives of Hindu outfit. At the meeting, police pointed out several important points such as obtaining permission from the landowners, local bodies etc before installing Vinayagar idols.

It must be noted that the organisers must also obtain NOC or no objection certificate from both Fire dept as well as from Tangedco. Point is that the applications must be submitted at the police stations with an undertaking to comply with the rules. Height limit of 10feet for Vinayagar idols has been set by the authorities. The idols must not be placed near places of worship, schools and hospitals etc. Finally, slogans that would lead to disturbance of communal harmony would be prohibited.
