One of the highly popular temples in south Tamil Nadu is Samayapuram Mariamman temple. Information is that the main deity at this temple Mariamman or the form of Adhi Parasakthi has been made of clay and sand with extractions of medicinal herbs etc. It is different from many stone based idols in other temples.

On Thursday, gold jewellery (donated by the devotees) weighing work began here. This is making news now.

It is worth mentioning that the work of removing stones, lacquer and dirt present in the 122kg 600gms of  gold jewellery donated by the devotees as gift and offering etc and grading/weighing were carried out on Thursday. The work was carried out under the behalf of retired HC justice Mr. K. Ravichandra Babu.

Others who made their presence felt at the temple during this gold jewellery work were Samayapuram Mariamman Temple Trustee Committee chairman Mr. V.S.P. Elangovan, Mariamman temple JC Mr. A. R.A. Prakash, temple trustees Mr. Pitchaimani, Raja Suganthi, Mr. S. Lakshmanan, officials of the charitable trust department, jewellery valuers and temple supervisors etc.

It must be noted that goldsmiths were busy in the work involving the removal of dirt and lacquer etc. The surveillance camera at the place where gold jewellery was weighed recorded the measurements. Information collected is that once the work of removing dirt, lacquer and stones gets completed then all the gold ornaments would be taken to central govt smelter in Mumbai through State Bank of India. At this smelter, the gold jewellery would be melted and later handed over to the SBI as pure gold. Based on the value of the pure gold, a gold bond would be obtained. The interest earned would be added to the Samayapuram Mariamman temple`s revenue. For 3 days, the gold weighing work would be carried out at this temple.
