Posted on: 20/Aug/2025 9:21:19 AM

The Indian Railways has announced that it will strictly enforce baggage weight rules at major railway stations, similar to those followed at airports. Although rules on permissible baggage weight already exist, they have not been effectively implemented until now.

From now on, stations including Prayagraj, Kanpur, Mirzapur, and Aligarh will ensure strict compliance with these regulations. As per the rules, AC First Class passengers can carry up to 70 kg of luggage free of charge, AC 2-Tier passengers up to 50 kg, AC 3-Tier and Sleeper Class passengers up to 40 kg, and General Compartment passengers up to 35 kg.

The Railways has further clarified that any additional baggage beyond the free allowance must be declared and registered at the luggage office.
