Parking turned chaotic now- Gridlock in Chennai due to unregulated parking is a huge concern now!!

Have you been recently witnessing vehicles cramming into every inch of road space, prime zones like Mylapore, T. Nagar etc choking with vehicles etc? Have you thought about the reason for the chaotic parking all of a sudden?

The answer is simple. It has been nearly a month now since the GCC has stopped collecting parking fees from motorists etc. As a result, the streets in Chennai have gone into gridlock with many vehicles jostling for space.

It must be recalled that on 20th July, the GCC signed a contract with TEXCO which was responsible for the collection of parking fees in Chennai. After this only, the above said mess began in the city.

It was brought out by a resident from Chepauk in Chennai that previously when GCC charged for parking the collectors demanded more money than the official rate. Bitter fact is that now there is no there is no traffic regulation at the beach etc and this despite the presence of traffic police etc there at the entry points.

It is worthy to mention here that in Mylapore showroom dealers block bus route roads with barricades and reserve parking space for their customers. This has made the devotees visiting the temple to park their vehicles on the road increasing the congestion.

In busy places like T. Nagar, the 2 wheelers occupy every corner even in the no parking zone. Previously, when the parking fees were collected, the traffic police would toe away the vehicles from no-parking zones. It is shocking that SWD slabs are also used now as parking spaces.

It was later mentioned by Chennai Deputy Mayor Mr. M. Mahesh Kumar that a region wise study on the parking models has been going on now. He added that in August tenders would be floated.
