Chennai’s iconic Broadway bus terminus will be closed for redevelopment in the first week of August 2025, as the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has completed a temporary bus stand near NRT Bridge, Royapuram on Ibrahim Salai.
The temporary facility includes 55 bus bays, a covered waiting area, RO drinking water, women’s safety features, and 51 toilets, along with a feeding room, first aid, and stormwater drainage. An Aavin parlour and self-help group stalls are also planned.
A 30-month multi-modal transport hub will be developed at Broadway by Chennai Metro Asset Management Ltd. with a total funding of over Rs. 800 crore, including Rs. 200 crore from the State government and a Rs. 74 crore skywalk connecting Metro, suburban rail, and the bus terminus.
Residents have requested better connectivity between the temporary bus stand and Beach Station, and officials have assured action.
