The Chennai Traffic Police have launched a major initiative to enhance traffic monitoring and enforcement by installing Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras across key locations in the city.
According to official sources, the department plans to complete the installation of these advanced surveillance cameras within the next two months. A total of 205 ANPR cameras will be set up across nine major roads, including important junctions and busy stretches such as Ashok Pillar and Parimunai.
The move aims to tighten enforcement of traffic rules and reduce violations significantly. ANPR cameras are capable of capturing high-resolution images of vehicle number plates, helping authorities to identify and penalize offenders effectively.
"Cameras will be installed to such an extent that traffic violators will have no way to escape in Chennai," stated the Traffic Police Department.
This step is expected to streamline traffic regulation, improve road safety, and assist in identifying stolen or suspicious vehicles with greater efficiency.
