Chennai Metros Wimco Nagar Depot Earns IGBC Gold Rating for Green Standards
Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has been awarded the prestigious IGBC Gold Rating under the "Green Factory Building" category for its Wimco Nagar Depot. This recognition highlights CMRL’s commitment to sustainable practices and eco-friendly infrastructure.
The elevated depot, part of the Blue Line, features innovative green initiatives like an automated coach washing plant that recycles 80% of water, an Effluent Treatment Plant for water reuse, and stormwater drains integrated with 7.5-meter-wide roads.
Spanning 33,918 sq. m., the facility includes 16 stabling lines, a training centre, and staff amenities, reinforcing both environmental responsibility and operational excellence.
This award adds to CMRL`s earlier achievement of Platinum ratings for 40 Metro stations, reflecting its leadership in green urban transport development.
