Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) is set to begin construction of a multi-storey building at Arumbakkam Metro station, aiming to enhance commuter convenience and generate non-fare revenue. The project will be built on 1,660.34 sq. m of land, located behind the station near the parking area.
The structure will include a basement, a stilt floor with a four-tier mechanical car parking system, and seven upper floors. Of these, four floors will be designated for commercial use housing retail and food outlets—while the remaining three will serve as office spaces.
As part of its broader strategy under Phase I, Phase I extension, and the upcoming Phase II projects, CMRL is promoting transit-oriented development by utilizing available land around stations for commercial infrastructure. Similar developments are planned at Saidapet and already exist at Ekkatuthangal.
The project is expected to be awarded within three months, and construction is anticipated to be completed in two years from the date of contract award.
