The Greater Chennai Corporation has commenced the biometric census today to update population data and enhance the delivery of government schemes. The first phase begins in Saidapet, Thidir Nagar, and the Adyar riverside areas.
Residents are requested to keep original and photocopies of Aadhaar card, family card, and voter ID ready for verification. The census will collect fingerprints, iris scans, and photographs to improve the accuracy of the city’s population register.
The civic body plans to carry out the data collection across various zones in a phased manner and has urged the public to cooperate fully for smooth and timely completion.
This initiative follows Tamil Nadu’s earlier move in 2013 to collect biometric data for the National Population Register (NPR).
