Posted on: 04/Jul/2025 9:41:46 AM

Imagine a sea road connecting Ennore with Mamallapuram!! Fantastic it will be right!!

Steps are being taken now in this regard. In Chennai, traffic congestion has been increasing every day is known to us. All sections of people including school and college students and office goers and hospital goers face many difficulties especially in the busy morning and evening hours due to heavy traffic.

The number of persons using their own vehicles to reach their destinations in Chennai has increased and this despite the fact that in Chennai there are several modes of public transportation like MRTS, metro trains and MTC buses. Many flyovers have been built in the city and despite this there is heavy traffic congestion across Chennai.

Several measures have been taken by the TN govt regarding decongesting the traffic in Chennai city. It is really shocking to note that in the future the traffic congestion would increase.

In this scenario, the TN State Highways Authority is now planning to construct a sea road from Ennore Port to Mamallapuram Poonjeri for a distance of 92kms. This would link Chennai and Chengalpet districts.

An amount of Rs 3.8 cr has been allotted to prepare a feasibility report for the construction of sea road from Ennore to Pooncherry. Information gathered is that this sensational project would cost a mammoth amount of Rs 27600 crores. This road has been given the name ECR Road Overpass.

In three phases, this sea road project would be implemented by the TN government. At an amount of Rs 5400 cr , the first phase has been implemented. For Rs 9000 cr, second phase works and for Rs 13200 cr, the third phase project works would be implemented also.

New technology to be used:

It is worth mentioning here that since this project work would be constructed as a sea overpass it would be constructed with the help of a new technology. Good news is that both the environment as well as marine resources would not get affected with this construction work. Approval would be obtained from the Coastal Regulatory Authority or CRA while implementing this project.
