In a proactive move to tackle recurring flood issues, the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has proposed the reconstruction of the bridge over the Kodungaiyur canal at South Avenue. This initiative is part of the city’s broader flood mitigation efforts following lessons learned from previous monsoon crises.
GCC has floated tenders for demolishing and rebuilding the bridge, estimating the project cost at ₹2.5 crore. The corporation aims to complete the work before the onset of the northeast monsoon.
According to Ward 35 Councillor S. Jeevan (MDMK), residents of areas like Muthamil Nagar have faced severe isolation during past monsoons due to waist-deep floodwaters, highlighting the urgent need for infrastructure improvement in the region.
