Today chief minister of TN Mr. M.K. Stalin would be busy launching mini buses in Thanjavur. It is now said that the last mile connectivity would become better by these new mini buses.
It must be noted that unlike the earlier initiative this new scheme would allow the operation of new mini buses services within the GCC limits. In Chennai alone, 20 private mini buses would begin their operations. In Theni, deputy chief minister Mr. UdayanIdhi Stalin would be flagging off the mini buses.
In Chennai, the health minister of TN, Mr. M. Subramanian would be launching the mini bus services. Information is that in total as many as 2084 mini buses would be launched across Tamil Nadu. Point is that more than 1000 existing mini buses would be brought under the scheme. This was as per some sources.
In south Chennai, 9 mini buses would begin operating and 11 mini buses in north Chennai. It must be taken into account that a total of 72 routes (33 in the north and 39 in the south) have been identified in Chennai. This was according to a senior officer from the transport dept. He mentioned that only after the private operators produce mini buses with the necessary documents permission would be issued.
It was explained by Mr. K. Kodiyarasan, TN Mini Bus Owners Federation president that though the federation has got pending demands, early implementation of the new scheme would be supported by them. He added that it was a progressive move for both operators and passengers.
