The historic Victoria Public Hall in Chennai is undergoing a major restoration and is expected to be fully renovated by June 2025, according to the Greater Chennai Corporation. Mayor R. Priya announced that the project, which began in 2023, is being carried out under the Singara Chennai 2.0 development scheme.
As part of the renovation, the first floor of the Victoria Public Hall is being converted into a modern art gallery in Chennai, while the remaining space will be transformed into a museum that showcases the heritage and history of Chennai. This move is intended to preserve and promote one of the city’s most iconic British-era heritage buildings.
Once completed, the Victoria Public Hall restoration project will serve as a cultural landmark, offering a glimpse into the city’s colonial past and architectural grandeur. The upgraded facility is also expected to boost tourism in Chennai and promote historical preservation in Tamil Nadu.
