MTC latest report regarding the free travel of women in the Vidiyal Payanam buses every day in Chennai!!
Every day, about 212.06 lakh women travel in the Vidiyal Payanam buses in Chennai and this was as per MTC or Metropolitan Transport Corporation.
In 2021, the Women`s Day Trip Scheme came into existence is known. According to this scheme, women would be allowed to travel free of cost in the regular fare buses. It is superb to mention that since the launch of this scheme the number of women travelling in the MTC buses has been increasing.
Information gathered is that as on 31st May 2025 139 crore women have travelled in the MTC buses. In May last year, 9.54 lakh women travelled in the MTC buses under this scheme. In May 2025, 12.06 women travelled in the MTC buses and this is a 21% increase. It is known that 3 new Vidiyal Pyanam travel buses were launched recently for women in Chennai and the bus routes were 66M, 185S and 60.
