In a major step toward women empowerment, the Greater Chennai Corporation has announced a citywide initiative to provide free vocational training for women. A budget of Rs 7.50 crore has been earmarked for this purpose.
The initiative, approved through a resolution in the monthly council meeting held on Wednesday, aims to equip women with practical skills such as tailoring, computer literacy, and other income-generating vocations. The ultimate goal is to transform women into self-reliant entrepreneurs.
According to the resolution:
- Each of the 15 zones in the city will receive Rs 50 lakh.
- The funds will be used to organize free training programs tailored to local demand.
- Women residing in each zone can enrol without paying any fees.
The Corporation`s move is expected to open new avenues for economic independence among women, particularly those from underprivileged backgrounds.
