Southern Railway Cancels Arakkonam - Salem MEMU Express Trains Until Further Notice
Southern Railway has announced the cancellation of two MEMU Express trains operating between Arakkonam and Salem, citing operational reasons. The decision impacts commuters who regularly travel on this route during weekdays.
Train No. 16087 Arakkonam–Salem MEMU Express, which was scheduled to operate five days a week (Monday to Friday), will remain cancelled until further notice. The train, which used to depart Arakkonam at 5:15 AM and reach Salem Junction at 10:50 AM, will not be in service as part of this cancellation.
Similarly, the return service, Train No. 16088 Salem–Arakkonam MEMU Express, is also cancelled until further notice. This train, which typically left Salem Junction at 3:30 PM and arrived in Arakkonam at 8:45 PM, will no longer run on weekdays.
Railway officials have stated that the cancellations are due to operational reasons, though no specific timeline has been given for the resumption of services.
