Chennai to get rains for next 2 days - Gusty winds, thunderstorms and rains etc on day one of Agni Natchathiram in Chennai!!
Residents of Chennai would not have imagined this even in their dreams!!
Agni Natchathiram or extreme heat began yesterday, 4th May, in Chennai with gusty winds along with a dust storm. There were thunderstorms and rains in several parts belonging to Chennai. Sounds unbelievable right!!
There was a collapse of electric posts due to thunderstorms and rains etc. This led to the students taking NEET in the dark. Moreover, national as well as international flights were thrown off schedule. Heavy rains led to water logging also. The Roof of a theatre was blown off by a hailstorm.
On Monday also, thunderstorms with lightning with light rains would occur In Chennai and this was according to RMC.
Yesterday Chennai localities like Nungambakkm, Perambur, Egmore, Meenambakkm, Tondiarpet, Triplicane, Koyambedu, Velachery, Anna Nagar, Ambattur and Avadi etc witnessed moderate to heavy rains.
It has been brought out by RMC that 11mm rains was recorded in Nungambakkam and 8mm in Meenambakkam stations. It is important to mention here that flights from places like Madurai, Trichy, Coimbatore, Singapore etc were circling in the sky for more than 15 minutes as they were unable to land in Chennai airport. The rains with water logging etc have made flights taking off very difficult at the Chennai airport. This has affected many flights going to places like Muscat, Sri Lanka, Delhi, Hyderabad, Salem and Bangalore.
The release from RMC has mentioned that in TN and Puducherry for the next 2 days light to moderate rains at few places with thunderstorms and lightning. It must be taken into account that is Gusty winds would blow at speeds of 40kmph to 50kmph in one or two places. In Ghat areas belonging to Coimbatore, Theni, Nilgris etc, heavy rains are likely to occur.
The RMC has revealed that from 7th May to 10th May there would be light to moderate rains at few places and thunderstorms along with lightning at one or two places in TN and Puducherry. There might be a dip in temperature for the next few days and Monday might be cooler in Chennai with light to moderate rains.
