IITM or Indian Institute of Technology Madras, a premier educational institution in India has invited applications for its next batch of BS degree programme in subjects like Data Science and Applications and Electronic Systems etc. On Wednesday, 30th April 2025, IITM announced the commencement of applications for the above said courses offered through a flexible online format.
It must be noted that these programs have been designed to make IIT education accessible across the world particularly for those students outside the traditional JEE or joint entrance examination framework.
Information gathered is that more than 38000 learners are currently enrolled and these include working professionals, international students, school leavers and career shifters etc. Point is that more than 255 of enrolled students are women and 20% are more than 30 years of age. This has shown the diverse appeal for the IIT program.
According to the release from IITM, direct admission would be offered to those students who have cleared JEE Main. For others who haven`t cleared, there would be a 4 week online preparatory course followed by an in-person qualifier examination.
Deadline for applying:
May 20th is the last date to apply for the above said BS degree courses. Eligible students could submit their applications via https://study.iitm.ac.in.
The director of IITM, Mr. V. Kamakoti spoke about how the objective behind these BS degree courses would be to democratise access to quality education from IIT. He added that three of the top 10 All India Ranks in GATE 2025 Data Science and AI were secured by the students belonging to the BS Data science program. Information collected is that the BS degree program in Data Science would be open to students from all streams but the electronic systems program would require students who have studied physics and mathematics in their class 11 and 12.
Program coordinator Professor Andrew Thangaraj spoke about how the geographic, economic and academic barriers would be broken by these programs. It is noteworthy that high performing students also have a pathway to study M. Tech/MS degree programs at the prestigious IIT-M.
