Students to be enrolled in the electoral rolls

The Election Commission has decided to appoint a campus ambassador in each of the 1,050 colleges in the state to help students enroll new voters in the electoral rolls in their institution. The student will distribute forms to enroll the eligible- 3.6 per cent of the total population being in the 18-19 age group and these would be sent to the respective booth level officers. The final publication of rolls would be made on January 6 next year. The Election Com­m­i­ssion of India has announced special summary revision of electoral rolls of assembly constituencies with reference to January 1, 2014, as the qualifying date. The draft roll would be published on October 1 and between October 1 and 31, application for inclusion, deletion, correction and change in address could be made.

All those who were 18 years on January 1, 2014, were eligible to submit applications for the inclusion of their names in the electoral rolls. Applications can be either in paper form or online. To encourage online applications, MoUs have been signed by district election officers with Internet browsing centers.

The voter’s ID card would be distributed to new voters on January 25, National Voter’s Day.
