Happy news for the Semmenchery residents!!
After being part of GCC or Greater Chennai Corporation for the last 13 years, the residents of Semmenchery have now got a reason to feel relieved and happy. The important piece of information is that by March month in 2025, these residents would get metro water supply. By this, about 51000 residents would benefit. It is now brought out that metro water is now laying pipelines of 3.6km to carry water from the distribution stations to the overhead tanks. Pipelines are being laid for 25km to carry water from the overhead tanks to the houses.
It is superb to mention that the residents here would get 7.93MLD water of desalinated water from 150 MLD Nemelli desal plant. As per a senior metro water officer, about 28% of works have been completed. It must be recalled that the works that began in June 2023 were stopped due to NE monsoon in 2023. He hinted that the works have started again. It is now believed that this project would supply water to about 1100 households in Semmenchery.
It was mentioned by a resident that bore wells and open well water have been helping the people living in the independent houses.
