Since the onion prices are soaring high, the economically backward people and middle income group are out into a great distress. The onion was sold at Rs 80 a kilo since the production of onion throughout the country has come down. People have started avoiding onions which are an essential commodity for cooking.

At this juncture, the price of an onion came down to Rs 40 per kilo. So people started buying onions.

Now of all a sudden since there is a shortage of onions the price has gone up to Rs 80 per kilo. In the places like Delhi, Bhopal and Kanpur the onions are being sold for Rs 70 per kilo. In Chennai, the online price is Rs 60 per kilo.

The merchants have mentioned that the onion prices may go up. Middle income groups are the ones who are severely affected because of the soaring price of onions.

Costlier onion and other vegetables pushed up inflation to a six-month high in August, rising for the third month in a row to 6.1 per cent in August, making it difficult for the RBI to cut rates in the monetary policy review due later this week.
