Tamil Nadu is poised to experience a stretch of light to moderate rainfall over the next six days, according to the latest forecast by P. Chenthamarai Kannan, the Director of the Chennai Meteorological Research Center. The atmospheric conditions, influenced by a downward circulation prevailing in the Southeast Arabian Sea and Lakshadweep and its adjoining areas, are expected to bring about rain accompanied by thunder and lightning in isolated locations across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal. The forecast indicates rain on the 21st and continuing until the 26th, with Chennai and its suburbs likely to witness partly cloudy skies in the next 48 hours.
Chennai residents can anticipate temperatures ranging from a maximum of around 31 degrees Celsius to a minimum of approximately 25 degrees Celsius during this period. Some areas of the city may experience light rain.
As of the latest 24-hour rainfall data ending at 8:30 am on the 20th, notable precipitation includes 5 cm in the Oothu area of Tirunelveli district, 4 cm each in Nalumku and Kakachi areas, and 3 cm each in Mancholai. Additionally, Ramanathapuram, Rameswaram, Mandapam, Thangachimadam, Pamban, Tirunelveli district Papanasam, and Mayiladuthurai district Kodiyakkarai recorded 2 cm, while several other locations received 1 cm of rainfall.
Fishermen are cautioned against venturing into the South Kumari Sea areas as cyclonic winds of 40 to 45 km/h, with occasional gusts reaching 55 km/h, are expected today. This warning is issued to ensure the safety of fishermen in light of the prevailing weather conditions, as highlighted in the official press release.
