What happened at Putlur railway station near Thiruvallur that has shocked many?

The cement sheets from platform roofs were torn away by Cyclone Michaung at the Putlur railway station near Thiruvallur. Truth is that the vulnerability of infrastructure has been exposed by this and it has grabbed many eyeballs now. The lack of safety and maintenance at the railway station is causing many to worry now. As per a resident of Putlur, the railway station does not have toilet facilities and the ticketing system was flawed.
He spoke about how trains were the only option for many devotees going to temples located here. Truth is that many women and elderly persons throng the temples here especially during the weekends. For the fast EMU trains to stop, the railway station needs a fourth platform and this was according to Mr. K. Baskar, secretary of Thiruvallur Railway Passengers` Association.
He threw light on how there was a platform for fast trains going from Chennai to Arakkonam but not for the trains in the opposite direction.
It was later revealed by some railway officers that Putlur railway station was the only place where the roof was damaged by the cyclone and it would be rectified.
