Extended Heavy Rainfall Expected in Tamil Nadu for the Next 4 Days, Warns India Meteorological Department

Posted on: 30/Nov/2023 10:30:16 AM
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a cautionary alert forecasting continued heavy rainfall in Tamil Nadu for the next four days. The announcement comes in light of a low-pressure area forming in the Bay of Bengal and South Andaman Sea, contributing to adverse weather conditions in the coastal districts of Tamil Nadu.

An orange alert has been sounded for December 2 and 3, indicating a high probability of intense rainfall during these days. According to the IMD, the ongoing deep depression over the Southeast Bay of Bengal is expected to intensify into a depression within the next 24 hours. Further predictions suggest that the low-pressure system will evolve into a storm within 48 hours, leading to the likelihood of persistent heavy rainfall in Tamil Nadu until the 4th of the month.

Several districts in Tamil Nadu are already grappling with widespread rainfall, with Chennai experiencing particularly heavy downpours since last night. In response to the challenging weather conditions, authorities have declared holidays for educational institutions in four districts, and Chennai University exams have been postponed.

As the situation evolves, residents are advised to stay updated on weather forecasts and take necessary precautions. The local administration is closely monitoring developments and is prepared to respond to any emergencies that may arise due to the inclement weather.

Stay tuned for further updates on the evolving weather scenario in Tamil Nadu.
