Surprise news: The Air Pollution level in Chennai Metro City on Deepavali this year is less than 40% as compared with last year!

Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board has informed that the Air Quality Index (AQI) – the extent of air pollution – in Chennai Metro City this year (2023) has decreased by 40% as compared to the previous year (2023). A notification was released in this regard:
"Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board had set up to monitor the extent of air pollution and the noise pollution due to the bursting of crackers, etc., in 7 locations in Chennai Metro City – Besant Nagar, Theagaraya Nagar, Nungambakkam, Thiruvallikkeni, Sowcarpettai, Valasarawalkam and Thiruvanmiyur.
As per the Supreme Court Order and the guidelines given by the Central Government Pollution Control Board, the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board has been monitoring the air pollution level for 15 days – 7 days before Deepavali festival, on the day of Deepavali festival, and 7 days after the Deepavali festival.
Further. The noise pollution was also similarly monitored for this period by the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board.
As such, the noise pollution extent in Thiruvotriyur on the 6th of November (before the Deepavali festival) was a minimum of 52.30 Decibels and a maximum was 64.7 Decibels.
On the Deepavali Festival day (Sunday, 12th November), a minimum level of noise pollution at 60.50 decibels in Theagaraya Nagar and a maximum of 83.60 Decibels was recorded in Valasarawalkam.
As such, the measurements of air pollution and noise pollution levels taken were recorded and it has been established that these levels were higher as compared with the national pollution level."
