Chennais Railways Set to Accelerate: 130 kmph Train Speeds Coming Soon

Speeds of up to 130 kmph are now achievable on the Chennai Central-Kootur, Chennai Central-Arakkonam, Jolarpettai, and Chennai Central-Renikunda railway routes, facilitating swift travel for express trains.
A substantial 413 km of railway lines have undergone upgrades, with 130 km of these lines already enhanced to support express trains running at higher speeds. Furthermore, an impressive 1,218 km of long-distance railway lines have received improvements, including a 110 km extension, allowing for faster express train travel. On the Chennai-Egmore-Villupuram route, train speeds have reached 110 km/h, with plans to increase them to 130 km/h.
Officials from the Southern Railway have confirmed their commitment to running express trains at speeds of 130 kmph on crucial routes. To achieve this, efforts are underway to enhance track quality, upgrade signal technology, eliminate curves, and remove unnecessary access points.
Currently, the Chennai Egmore-Chengalpattu-Villupuram route permits speeds ranging from 90 to 110 kmph, but endeavors are in progress to raise train speeds to 130 kmph. These enhancements are scheduled for completion by March of the following year, potentially reducing travel time to just 45 minutes.
Similarly, the Jolarpet-Coimbatore route is set to accommodate express trains operating at speeds between 110 and 130 kmph, offering travelers faster and more efficient transportation.
