Bengaluru-Chennai Travel Time to Reduce to 2 Hours with New Semi-High Speed Rail

Posted on: 07/Jun/2023 3:11:49 PM
The travel time between Bengaluru and Chennai is set to be reduced to 2 hours once a new semi-high speed rail line is constructed.

The Ministry of Railways has allocated Rs 8.30 crore for the Final Location Survey (FLS) of the proposed route spanning 350 km from Baipanahalli in Bengaluru to Chennai Central. The selected firm will conduct aerial LiDAR surveying, develop the final alignment, and submit a detailed project report.

The operational speed of the new rail line will be 200 kmph, with a design speed of 220 kmph. Efforts will be made to ensure the infrastructure quality and address key factors such as crossings, water bodies, and tunnels.

This new train service is poised to make the Bengaluru-Chennai route one of the fastest in the country, revolutionizing intercity travel. Currently, the Vande Bharat Express holds the title for the fastest train on this line, operating at an average speed of 81 kmph and taking around 4 hours and 25 minutes to complete the journey.
