Chennai Metro Rail Limited MD E Siddique launched the new e-ticketing feature on Wednesday, allowing commuters to conveniently purchase Chennai Metro tickets through WhatsApp. Commuters who book tickets using the messaging app will receive a 20% discount on their fare.
Here are the steps on how to book a WhatsApp ticket in Chennai Metro:
- Save the WhatsApp number +91 83000 86000 in your phone.
- Open WhatsApp and send a message to the number.
- You will be prompted to choose a language. Select English or Tamil.
- You will then be asked to choose between two options: book tickets and search for a nearby metro station.
- On clicking on the Book Your Ticket option, you will be asked to choose your origin and destination stations.
- You can book up to six tickets in one go and pay using UPI, internet banking or credit/debit cards, among other options.
- After successful payment, a QR ticket will be sent to you.
- Show the QR ticket to the ticket collector at the entry gate of the metro station.

- The service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
- You can book tickets for any day of the week.
- There is a 20% discount on tickets booked through WhatsApp.
