Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa who has been giving most importance to the management of forests, as it played a vital role in sustainable development has now sanctioned Rs 2.81 crore  for the water facilities of animals.

Water sources in forest areas get dried whenever there is lack of rain and these forces animals to come out of the jungle and step into human settlement, resulting in huge losses.

To avoid this the Chief Minister has ordered to set up Borewells at 400 ft in forests and to install solar-powered motor pumps. This will enable storing of water in overhead tanks from which water will be supplied to open-air tanks in forest areas. This will fulfill the drinking water needs of animals.

Also, the Chief Minister has ordered to 26 create deep borewells in Anaimala, Mudhumalai, Mundanthurai, Sathyamangalam, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Coimbatore and Vellore forests, at a cost of Rs 2.37 crore. In total, she has sanctioned Rs 2.81 crore  for the water facilities of animals, added the release.

Jayalalithaa announced setting up four more wildlife sanctuaries in the State, in addition to the existing 10 wildlife sanctuaries.
