Koyambedu Flower Market sees a sharp drop in prices

In the Koyambedu flower market in Annanagar, the cost of various flowers witnessed a significant drop in prices yesterday. While a kilogram of jasmine was priced between Rs. 700 to Rs. 800, ice malli, kattu malli, mullai, and jathimalli were priced at Rs. 500, Kanakambaram at Rs. 400, Arali flower at Rs. 200, Samanthi at Rs. 240, Sambanki at Rs. 120, Chocolate Rose at Rs. 70, and Paneer Rose at Rs. 80.
However, the prices of all flowers witnessed a sharp decrease yesterday. A kilogram of jasmine, Mullai, Jathimalli, and Kattumalli were sold for Rs. 300, while ice malli was priced at Rs. 250. Kanakambaram was sold at Rs. 350, Samanthi at Rs. 200, Sambank at Rs. 80, Chocolate Rose at Rs. 70, Paneer Rose at Rs. 50, and Arali Flower at Rs. 150.
Chairman of the Flower Market Management Committee, Muthuraj, commented on the price fluctuations and attributed the spike in jasmine prices to the Easter festival. As retailers stocked up on jasmine for the festival, there was a shortage of the flower, which drove the prices up. However, with the festival over, the prices of all flowers have reduced in just one day. Muthuraj also added that until the next special occasion, all flowers would be sold at reduced prices.
