Matric schools seek relaxation

In the year 2003, a report submitted by S V Chittibabu Commission. Some requirements were formulated in this report. For instance, under the requirements, a school in a district headquarters must have eight grounds, a municipality ten grounds, and corporation six grounds. But, many schools have not been able to comply with these norms. A committee headed by the director of school education has been formed to study the minimum land requirements for schools, and is due to submit its report.

The Tamil Nadu Nursery, Primary, and Matriculation Schools Association on Monday urged the State government to exempt existing schools from complying with minimum land requirements and expedite the process of renewal of recognition.

Another demand was for timely disbursal of reimbursement for schools which have admitted students under the 25 per cent reservation for economically weaker sections and disadvantaged groups under the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Act, 2009. A school education department official said the process for reimbursement was under way.
