Great news for senior citizens in India! According to a recent update from the Railway Minister, Ashwini Vaishnav, senior citizens and women over the age of 45 will now be automatically assigned lower berths on trains, even if they do not express their preference during booking.
The provision is applicable to all sleeper, triple decker AC, and double decker AC compartments, with 6 to 7 berths, 4 to 5 berths, and 3 to 4 berths respectively. This move is aimed at making train travel more comfortable and convenient for senior citizens and women.
Previously, travel fare concessions were available for senior citizens, but they were withdrawn in 2020. However, with this new provision, senior citizens and women over the age of 45 can rest assured that they will be provided with a lower berth on their train journey.
