The 2nd phase of the Chennai Metro Rail project covers three corridors at a cost of Rs. 63,246 crores. As such, detailed reviews are being conducted to extend the corridors.
The corridor from Lighthouse to Poonamallee is planned to be extended up to Parandur, covering a distance of 50 km. The corridor from Madhavaram to Sholinganallur is also planned to be extended by another 17 km, covering the Thirumangalam-Mugappair-Ambattur to Avadi stretch, which is currently under review.
The corridor between Madhavaram and Siruseri is planned to be extended up to Kilambakkam, and detailed reviews for this extension are currently in progress.
L&T ITEL Company will conduct the feasibility report for the Thirumangalam-Avadi corridor, while RV Associates will conduct the feasibility report for the Poonamallee-Parandur corridor. CISTRA will conduct the feasibility report for the Siruseri-Kilambakkam corridor.
