Chennai Airport`s new integrated terminal, built at a cost of Rs 2,400 crore, is set to boost the airport`s capacity and enhance the passenger experience. The first phase of the terminal construction has been completed, with machines for speedy checking and dispatch of belongings installed and tested three weeks ago. The terminal is expected to increase the number of passengers from 2.2 crores to 3.5 crores in a year.

Initially, the airport`s inauguration was scheduled for March 27, with the Prime Minister of India expected to attend. However, the installation of the machines is yet to be completed, leading to the postponement of the inauguration until April 8 or 14. Engineers from 12 different airports have been working day and night to complete the installation, with the work expected to finish by the end of the month. Once operational, the new terminal is expected to provide a more efficient and seamless travel experience for passengers.
