Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu, is set to witness a major infrastructural change with the construction of three new flyovers in the next two years. The flyovers are being constructed at a total cost of Rs 369.04 crore and are expected to benefit around two lakh people.

The flyover at T Nagar and Anna Salai through CIT Nagar will cost an estimated Rs 131 crore and will be 1,200 metres long with a width of 8.40 metres. It is expected to decongest traffic in T Nagar, a bustling shopping hub in the city.

The flyover over the Ganesapuram subway between Tondiarpet and Thiru Vi Ka Nagar zones will have a length of 678 metres and a width of 15.20 metres, with an estimated cost of Rs 142 crore. It is expected to ease the huge traffic congestion witnessed in the area, particularly during the rainy season.

The third flyover, costing Rs 96.04 crore, will be constructed over the railway junction on Manali Road near Korukkupet railway station. With a length of 840 metres and a width of 8.4 metres, this flyover is expected to benefit about 1.5 lakh people and 25,000 people are expected to use it daily. The flyover has been a long-time pending demand of the local residents as motorists have to wait at the railway crossing for about 30-40 minutes daily.

The construction of these flyovers is a much-needed move to alleviate traffic congestion in Chennai, making commuting faster and more efficient.
