Traffic to get affected on both sides of ECR?

At ECR or East Coast Road in Chennai, a temporary diversion stretch would be constructed and this would be to facilitate the laying of water pipes between Nemmeli desalination plant and Pallavaram on the GST Road.

Point to be noted is that TNRDC that maintains the section of ECR between Thiruvanmiyur and Mahabalipuram would be constructing this road for Rs 15lakhs in the next 3 months. This would affect the traffic on ECR in both directions because of the fact that a portion of the centre meridian near the desal plant would be demolished. By this, the Chennai bound motorists and vehicles plus those going to Mahabalipuram could use the temporary road.

The Metro Water dept would be able to complete the pipe laying work soon if all the vehicles are diverted along the temporary road. This was according to some officials from TNRDC.  The residents plus those who use the Highway regularly recalled how in the past too such diversions were planned badly and executed on ECR.

The contractor who would be chosen by bidding method would be responsible for any muschaps etc. this was according to some officials from TNRDC.
