Showers cool down Chennai

Posted on: 15/Aug/2013 7:17:38 PM
Light showers brought down the temperature in the city and turned out be a pleasant holiday for Chennaites.

The regional meteorological centre (RMC) at Nungambakkam recorded a maximum temperature of 27.6 degrees Celsius, which is nine degrees less than normal, at 2.30 pm on Thursday. "Our forecast says that intermittent rains will continue in the city for the next 24 hours," said a duty officer at the RMC.

After a heavy spell of rainfall on Wednesday, the city recorded 5.8cm of rains and the suburbs received 4.6cm. Weathermen said a cyclonic upper air circulation near the Andhra coast had triggered the rain activity in the city as well as northern parts of Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry, which received 1.5cm of rains yesterday.
