Revised Motor Vehicle Act implementation from today (26th October) - details of penalties!

The revised Motor Vehicle Act, which now includes multiple increases in the penalties for traffic Rules violations, is effective from today (Wednesday, 26th October)!
As the revised Motor Vehicles Act by the Central Government in 2019 is already implemented in the States, now, after a gap of 3 years, the State Government of Tamil Nadu has released the revised rules.
- As per this, the penalties have been increased for 46 types of traffic offences!
- The penalty for driving vehicles without the required documents has been revised from Rs, 500/- to Rs. 5000/-.
- The penalty for chatting on the cell phone while driving bikes, cars, etc., is now revised to Rs. 1000/-.
- In case children under the age of 18 drive vehicles including cars, motorcycles, scooters, etc., the parents of the children will be penalized! Further, the registration of the vehicle will be cancelled! This offence may entail up to 3 years in prison and a penalty of Rs. 25000/-.
- The penalty for drunken driving remains at Rs. 10000/-.
- Indulging in motor-cycle racing, etc., on the road, in an upsetting and threatening manner to the other citizens, until now, entailed a penalty of Rs. 500/-, which is now revised to Rs. Rs. 5000/- and in case caught for the second time, it is revised to Rs. 1000/-.
- In case the car drivers drive without wearing seat belts, the penalty is Rs. 10000/-.
- Driving vehicles without an insurance cover will entail a penalty of Rs. 1000/-.
- Driving vehicles without registration will entail a penalty of Rs. 2500/-.
- In case of failure to give way to emergency vehicles such as ambulances, fire-fighting vehicles, etc., the penalty will be Rs. 10000/-.
As the above-revised traffic Rules have come into effect from today (26th October) in Chennai Metro City, THE VEHICLE DRIVERS ARE ADVISED TO CHECK FOR ALL THE REQUIRED DOCUMENTS, KEEP THEM AND DRIVE AT REASONABLY LOW SPEEDS!
