Where are the public consultation meetings now in Chennai?

Bitter truth is that the public consultations that used to be there in the past before starting the new projects in Chennai and not there now.

The opinions and concerns of the Chennai residents are not given huge importance now by the Greater Chennai Corporation or GCC. This has been worrying many now in Chennai. After moiré than 6 years, Chennai has got its new mayor named Priya but it is said that GCC has been the same in its attitude towards the resident`s views and Chennai has been functioning as per the precedence set by the previous regime.

In recent times Besant Nagar in south Chennai grabbed many eyeballs when the residents there stopped the Storm Water Drain or SWD works of GCC. The residents were of the view that the sandy soil present in their locality does not need a SWD network to carry rainwater into the sea. It is shocking to mention that without consulting the residents there GCC started to dig up streets.

It was mentioned by a resident that they had stopped the work of GCC as the rain water would percolate into the sandy soil very fast. Point is that a few weeks back GCC began the work in Besant Nagar with the aim of preventing water stagnation in the locality. Convenor of Arappor Iyyakkam Mr. Jayaram Venkatesan expressed his thoughts. He spoke about how the opinions of the residents must be given importance by the GCC before starting important work.
