Traffic diversion now in Chennai due to the Chess Olympiad!!

On 28th July 2022, opening ceremony of 44th World Chess Championships would be held in Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor stadium at Raja Muthiah Road in Periamet, Chennai.

The opening ceremony would have many important personalities like the PM of India, Governor of TN, CM of TN plus several state as well as central ministers etc. Many popular chess players across the world would be making their presence felt.

For this opening ceremony, traffic arrangements have been made by the Greater Chennai Police department now. There would be heavy traffic congestion along the Rajah Muthiah Road, EVR Periyar Road, Central Square, Anna Salai till Spencers, plus in the neighbourhoods on 28th July.

The vehicles would not be allowed from Demellows Road to go through the Raja Muthiah Road. In the same way, vehicles would not be allowed from EVK Sampath Road and Jermiah Road junction towards Rajah Muthiah Road.

It is learnt that commercial vehicles would not be allowed from EVR Road Gangureddy Road junction, Nair bridge junction, Gandhi Irwin Road junction towards Central.

Those commercial vehicles coming from Broadway would be diverted via Kuralagam, Thanga Salai, Walltax Road to Mooulakothalam. These vehicles can take Vyasarpadi over bridge to reach their destinations. The vehicle drivers have been requested not to use these roads and use different roads.
