Chennai city is always buzzing with heavy traffic. Recently, CAG or Citizen Consumer and Civic Action group conducted a study in Chennai. It was brought to light now by the study that in Chennai there is over speeding of both two wheelers as well as four wheelers along 15 arterial stretches in the city. The vehicles have not been following the speed limit that has been mentioned in these stretches in Chennai.

Speeding is driving too fast or exceeding the prescribed speed limits has far ranging consequences and is a major factor responsible for the road accidents. This was as per a report titled Slowdown. It must be noted that slowdown is an assessment of speeding concerns and their management in Chennai.

It is learnt from SCRB or State Crime Records of Bureau report of 2020 that 98.57% of accidents in TN were because of drivers fault such as aggressive driving and over speeding etc.

Spot surveys were conducted to examine the variations in speeding across chosen vehicle categories in 15important arterial stretches in Chennai. The survey was conducted by Varsha Vasuhe, researcher CAG and Sumana Narayan, senior researcher CAG.

It is noteworthy that these arterial stretches in Chennai include Anna Nagar, G.N. Chetty Road, EVR Salai, Anna Salai, Peters Road, Adyar, Harrington Road, GST Road and ECR etc.

It was later mentioned by Sumana, senior researcher CAG that high driver non-compliance to the posted speed limits was found in many arterial stretches in the city. She added that the trend was similar across different vehicle categories and contextual variations etc.
