It must be noted that the GCC has directed the educational institutions in Chennai to advise students to wear facemasks in the campus compulsorily to prevent the spread of Covid-19 infection.

It is learnt that GCC has asked the persons with symptoms to visit the corporation primary health centres for RT-PCR test. This was according to a press release from GCC. The Chennaites with symptoms can also call 1913 and get the RT PCR test done. Currently, 864 persons are on home quarantine and 49 persons in private hospitals and 30 persons in various government hospitals. In Chennai, the number of Coronavirus cases has been increasing for the last 6 days. To review the situation, health minister Mr. M. Subramanian held a meeting at Ripon Buildings yesterday.

Point to be noted is that after the meeting the GCC commissioner Mr. Gagandeep Singh Bedi has sent an advisory to the director of IIT-M, VC of Madras University, VC of Anna University, Deans, Registrars and heads of all government as well as private institutions like schools, colleges to follow Covid-19 protocols in the campuses compulsorily.

It was later revealed by some officers from GCC that there has been poor compliance regarding wearing facemasks by students as well by the teachers now. The directive from GCC Commissioner brought out that the professors have to ensure compulsory wearing of facemasks and social distancing etc in places like classrooms, hostels, labs, libraries etc. To create awareness, signage and messages would be put at prominent places.
