Madurai district police imposes restrictions in the Sathuragiri hills

Madurai district police have imposed restrictions on timings with respect to pilgrimage to Lord Sundaramahalingam Temple in the Sathuragiri hills on August 5 and 6 during the Aadi Amavasai festival. In a statement, Superintendent of Police V. Balakrishnan said the devotees would not be allowed to climb the hill between 10 p.m. on August 5 and 5 a.m. the next day. The arrangement had been made to ensure safety of the devotees in view of the huge crowd expected to climb through the narrow and dangerous hilly path, he said.
