Wear helmets, save lives!!
Motorcycle riders as well as pillion riders must wear helmets compulsorily from today onwards in Chennai!!
The Chennai city police would be implementing this rule strictly. It is necessary to wear helmets while going in two wheelers and a special drive to create awareness regarding wearing helmets would be conducted on Monday 23rd May 2022. Those persons who do not wear helmets while driving two wheelers and the pillion riders would be fined on the spot and cases would be booked under Motor Vehicles Act.
The rules are there to help the people and not to collect fine amounts from them and this was according to a senior traffic police personnel. An amount of Rs 100 would be collected as fine from the rider without helmet and Rs 100 from pillion riders without helmet. He then spoke about how till Sunday just advice was given to those persons who did not wear helmets while driving their two wheelers. He added that from today onwards fines would be collected and cases would be booked.
The shocking piece of information is that from 1st January till 15th May 2022 as many as 98 bike riders have died and as many as 841 persons sustained injuries. This was brought to light by a release from Chennai city traffic police. According to a resident belonging to Alandur in Chennai, this move to collect fines from the persons who do not follow traffic rules would be superb. She added that rules must be taken seriously.
