No more heavy traffic congestion on the Usman Road and on Ranganathan Street in Chennai!! Huge relief for the Chennai residents!!

One of the busiest localities in Chennai, T. Nagar is grabbing the attention now. The time has come for the inauguration of the skywalk in the busy T. Nagar locality in Chennai. This Rs 27 crores Skywalk was supposed to be opened last year itself but it got delayed. It is now confirmed that the Skywalk here would be inaugurated in June for public use.

In December 2020, the work 9 under smart city project) began here and it was supposed to be over in 15 months is well known fact.

Mambalam railway station would be linked with the bus terminus at T. Nagar by means of this skywalk and due to this there would be easing of traffic congestion on the 2 important roads like Ranganathan Street and Usman Road. Point to be noted is that more than 50000 persons use Mambalam railway station every day and they could use the skywalk instead of crowded streets.

The engineers belonging to GCC explained that the Skywalk project was planned to be aesthetically pleasing. Truth is that various aspects of original design have not been included in the final project.

This 600m long and 4m wide skywalk would go through the Madley Road subway and the Mambalam station road. The lighting facilities in the skywalk would be superb and steps would be taken to ensure that this skywalk would not be taken by hawkers. This was pointed out by some officers belonging to Chennai Corporation. It is learnt that pending dues from the contractors plus Covid-19 pandemic and various other design issues have led to the delay in the skywalk project here.

Those elderly persons and those who are differently able need not worry about using this skyway. It is now said that battery operated vehicles would be provided to these persons. This was according to the Deputy Mayor Mr. Mahesh Kumar. He hinted that a lift near the bus terminus and an escalator near the railway station would be provided. Various labour based issues have been sorted out now.
