Many girls after completing school studies from government schools join under graduate courses or diploma courses for the sake of their careers. Soon, these girl students would be getting Rs 1000 per month from the government. Under this scheme, about 6lakhs girl students would get benefitted. In the budget Rs 698 crores has been allotted for this purpose.

It must be noted that all the girl students who have studied classes 6 to 12 in government schools would be paid Rs 1000 directly into their bank account and this would be till these students finish their under-graduation or diploma courses. In addition to other scholarships, these students would be eligible for this amount also. This was according to the finance minister Mr. Palanivel Thiaga Rajan. He made this sensational announcement at the budget yesterday.

Cost of under-graduation for the students belonging to the government schools would also be provided by the government if the students join premier educational institutions like IIT, IIM, IISc and AIIMS etc.

In line with the changing times, the Moovalur Ramamirtham Ammaiyar Marriage Assistance scheme would be converted into Moovalur Ramamirtham Ammaiyar Higher Education Assurance Scheme.

It is important to mention that the new scheme was introduced due to low enrolment rate of the girl students from various government schools in higher education.  It was in the year 1989 the original marriage assistance scheme was started by the former CM of TN Mr. M. Karunanidhi. This was done to promote education and support the marriage of the girls from poor families. Those girls who have completed class 10 were given Rs 25000 plus 8gm gold coin and the girls who had completed degree got Rs 50000 and 8gm gold coin.

Popular advocate Mrs. Sudha Ramalingam expressed her views regarding this new scheme by the TN government for government school girls. She welcomed the new scheme and said this new scheme is more important to women empowerment than the earlier scheme.  She shed light on the fact that education would not only empower a woman but it would also empower the entire society. The dropouts among the girl students would be reduced by this new scheme from the government. This was as per some activists.

A child rights activist Mr. Devaneyan was of the view that this new scheme would make the enrolment in the Tamil Nadu government schools to increase and would reduce the dropouts among the girl students.
