Illegal bus stands, ad agency role to be probed

Top officials of the Chennai Corporation have asked the vigilance department and police department to begin a criminal investigation. It has been found that an ad agency has forged a council resolution and obtained a illegal electricity connection for illegal bus stands.
It has also been found that there are numerous illegal bus stands in the city. �The bus stands were making the city corporation richer by several lakhs of rupees as the advertiser would pay it around Rs 20,000 a month. The corporation has begun removing some of these spurious bus stands�, said an official.
However, bus commuters are the ones who get the raw end of the deal. �(We) cannot distinguish between a legal and an illegal bus stand, but when the corporation removes one, terming it illegal, it ought to replace it with one that is legal as a service to the people who have to wait under it�, said one commuter.
