The usual celebrations and competitions on the Republic Day would not be there due to the Coronavirus infection pandemic.

For the sake of their kids, few resident welfare associations in Chennai have planned to hold special events by following all the Covid-19 protocols.

According to Mr. Seetharaman, general secretary, Federation of Welfare Associations in Tambaram Corporation Limit last year Republic Day celebrations were not there due to the Coronavirus pandemic. There were no competitions conducted and no celebrations took place at the schools also on the special day last year. He assured that this time there would be competitions like elocution and fancy dress competitions etc. The stories of various freedom fighters would be told by the senior citizens to the younger generation kids. The Republic Day celebrations would be carried out by following all the rules and regulations without fail. Permission was obtained from the corporation zonal offices to celebrate Republic Day in the localities.

Mr M. Balakrishnan, general secretary, Tansi Nagar Welfare Association in Velachery mentioned that every year special guests would be invited for the RD celebrations and now sanitary workers from ward 179 have been invited as guests to hoist the flag. He then explained about how the children have become inactive due to the online classes and by this initiative the children would be brought to the open and would be made active again etc. He concluded that the day would be dedicated to all the kids in their locality. It is now revealed that a similar trend is being witnessed in the residential colonies in Tamil Nadu now.
